False alarm

I woke up last night around 2:30AM, heard Erica take a cleansing breath, and then start her early labor Lamaze breathing. My heart rate jumped to about a million beats per second in an instant and I was wide awake. I waited for the contraction to end so that I could ask her how long they had been happening, how she felt, what she wanted to do, etc.

I waited. And I waited. And then I realized that I heard her sigh and then resume normal breathing as she slept on through the night. It took at least ten minutes to calm down and go back to sleep.

Looks like I'm ready. Bring it on.

Safe and sound

We've had a week and a half of work without further incident. I have heard that the head honchos are in on some progress but they can't share it with us yet. I'm willing to be patient. We received several candid and informative talks from our director and I expect that he'll address us again when he's got news he can share.

Our friends Lauren and Steve are in town for Memorial Day and our baby shower. Lauren is helping organize the shower with our friend Jennifer. We've had a great time so far going to the farmer's market and Louie's Cafe for lunch. The shower is tomorrow so we'll undoubtedly continue to have a good time :) Erica's mom will be arriving this evening to join in the festivities :)

We've been decorating the nursery. Today we found a cool metal lizard that was made in Haiti that we hung above the changing table. I'm sure Erica will post photos soon.

I Have to Push the Pram-a-lot

To Erica's great delight we got our travel system in the mail today. By the time I got home she had already assembled it. I suppose this is fair, since I put the crib, changing table, and storage unit we got at Ikea together. Plus, she used to work with the travel systems at Babies R Us, so she already knew how it fit together, etc. I got the grand orientation when I got home this evening. Now we just need a kid...

Bonus: A LEGO adaptation of the scene that inspired my title. Do not play at work or anywhere you must be serious.

Impending Male Progeny

We went to the hospital today for the second ultrasound and found out that we're having a boy! In the past week or so I had started to think of our child as a "he" but I didn't really have any reason to do so. I doubt I have prophetic powers, but evidently my dad knew I would be a boy before my parents found out too, so maybe there's something going on...

We're working on our 17-point plan to get ready for the kid, and soon our office will be a nursery, our dining room will double as an office, and the guest room... Well, the guest room closet will get the rest of what's in the office closet but it'll still be a guest room, so there will be space for folks to stay if they want to visit. Just saying. At any rate, it's almost time to enlist the help of some friends with strong arms to help move furniture :)

In other news, the weather has cleared up and I'm feeling just fine. Funny how that works :) I'm still behind on my study schedule for the next exam but that'll work itself out. I hope.
