Sick again

So January is looking like a real winner. This is the second weekend so far that I've spent time throwing up. The good news is this time I'm not running a 100 degree temperature and I've been able to be up and around some to help out. The bad news is, we've all got it this time. Fun times.

As a corollary, I haven't had time to put much data into my personal finance software all month. I still plan to get going on that goal but it looks like I'll be doing a monthly update instead of weekly like I had planned... So it goes.

So I am interested... which "Personal Finance Software" vendor did you choose?

I'm using gnucash, which is free at gnucash.org. I had used old versions of MS Money and Quicken in the past but I didn't want to pay for software that I might not end up using for very long. Plus, last time we tried Quicken Erica's bank started charging us a $10 technology fee every month to enable the automatic download features.

The entry methods for gnucash are a little different than Money or Quicken in that it's based on double entry accounting, but it's not hard to get used to. Apparently it can automatically connect to your bank to download your transactions but I didn't recognize all of the terminology in the documentation (the developers are in Germany so they might not have the US protocols written yet?) so I haven't tried very hard to get it set up. I did get it to automatically grab the latest prices for the publicly traded mutual funds in my retirement account though.
